"Aint no way to reason
with hurricane season"
October in Saint Augustine is a fine time to get married. The weather is cooling off but the days are still long and languid with the some of the sub-tropical charm of Florida minus the summer heat. The one caveat would be it also falls in the last few weeks of hurricane season. Exactly one week before Ashley and Justin's waterfront wedding, our small drinking town with a fishing problem was inundated with winds and severe storm surge from Hurricane Matthew. Talking to Ashley the Monday before the wedding, as we waited for the national guard to let us back on the island, she assumed the wedding would be called off and postponed. Luckily for us, it wasn't. And never the quitters, even amidst the week of disorder following the storm, The Way's (Saint Augustine restaurant and datil pepper royalty) managed to pull off a party for the ages, one that was both elegant and incredibly- fun showing that out of chaos springs opportunity and in every disaster there are silver linings. Congratulations and best wishes to the newly weds!
